Policeman critical after shooting at police station

A 47 year old police officer from Dunnottar SAPS was critically injured during a shooting spree by two unknown gunmen at the police station in Dunnottar.

DUNNOTTAR – A police officer from SAPS Dunnottar is in a critical condition in the Alberton Union Hospital, after a shooting incident that occurred around 22:30 on June 8.

According to information, two armed men entered the charge office and started firing shots. Police spokesperson W/O Tommy Tomlinson, told HERAUT that a 47 year old officer returned gunfire, but he was hit several times by the gunmen. After the shooting spree, the gunmen fled the scene.

The injured officer’s traumatised colleague immediately called for help and the injured officer was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

W/O Tomlinson said the motive of the shooting is not known. While the suspects are still at large, the incident prompted an investigation by the forensic unit of SAPS.
