Sibiya family slams delays as Nigel Court remands murder case
The family of slain Thabo Village mechanic Banele Sibiya says they are losing patience as the case against the woman accused of fatally stabbing him has been postponed to March.
A woman accused of fatally stabbing her boyfriend in Duduza appeared in the Nigel Magistrate’s Court on February 13 after she was granted R500 bail.
The accused was arrested following the death of 30-year-old Banele Sibiya, a mechanic from Thabo Village. Sibiya was stabbed at his home on October 5, 2025.
The case was postponed to March 23. The court indicated that this would be the final remand before the case proceeds,
Family spokesperson Ntombikayise Sibiya said the family feels frustrated.
“Every time we come to court, we don’t know what is holding this case back. This matter has been dragging on since last year. All we want is justice for Banele,” she said.
Community members have also voiced concern. Local resident Sipho Mthembu said the prolonged court process is affecting the community’s trust in the justice system.
“We stand with the Sibiya family. Justice delayed feels like justice denied,” he said.
Another community member, Thandeka Khumalo, said the community wants to see this matter handled with urgency so that the family can find closure.
