Nigel SAPS conducts crime awareness campaign
The Nigel SAPS conducted a school talk and search at Happiness Primary School on February 7.
The purpose of the search was to prevent the use of illicit substances on the school premises and to create a safe, secure environment for the learners and teachers.
The SAPS found no illicit items. The school talk addressed bullying, theft, sexual assault, human and child trafficking, substance abuse, and cyberbullying.
On February 8, the SAPS conducted a second-hand goods compliance crime awareness campaign. At a roadblock on the M63, officers checked if vehicles were roadworthy, if they were stolen or not, and searched for illicit items. They searched 74 people and 50 vehicles.
Officers also visited scrap yards and pawn shops in the policing precinct to check for compliance and sensitise the owners not to buy stolen property.
Officers further did a saturation exercise in the area and searched two premises related to illicit drugs. They found illegally owned ammunition and arrested a suspect for the illegal possession of ammunition.
