Safety concerns keep Carolina-Chrissiesmeer route closed

While plans are underway to restore the route, no definitive timeline has been established or communicated to the public.

CAROLINA – The P177 road between Carolina and Chrissiesmeer remains closed following the collapse of a corrugated metal culvert bridge on December 28.

The incident has caused significant disruption to local traffic, with vehicles now being redirected via the Carolina/Breyten route as an alternative to Chrissiesmeer.

On December 30, local officials, including Gert Sibande District Municipality’s executive mayor, Walter Mngomezulu, Chief Albert Luthuli Local Municipality’s executive mayor, Mbuso Magubane, and departmental engineers, conducted a site visit to assess the damage.
