The Msukaligwa Warriors Cricket Club recorded a resounding victory over Standerton Cricket Club in a match played at Ligbron Academy for Technology on Saturday.
The match was a rather one-sided affair with the Warriors bowlers wreaking havoc among the Standerton batting line-up.
Standerton won the toss and elected to bat on a lively wicket that lured the Standerton batsmen into playing some rash shots that saw them losing all 10 wickets for a mere 48 runs in only the 17th over.
Destroyers-in-chief for the Warriors were Andrich Viljoen, a promising young bowler, who took 5/15 in six overs and the “old legend”, Corrie Swart, who took 4/22 in nine overs. This exceptional partnership yielded a nine-wicket haul.
They were superbly aided by some outstanding fielding by the hyped-up Warriors, who saw a steady procession of dejected Standerton batsmen trudging back to the pavilion.
The Msukaligwa Warriors then went in to bat and rattled the required runs off in 15 overs, losing only the wicket of Ellwyn Thomas in the process. Riaan Jansen with 15 not out and Gary Daniel with 27 not out guided the Warriors to victory by nine wickets.
Andrich Viljoen was adjudicated Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
Msukaligwa Warriors thank all their supporters and team players for the past half of the season.
The club will be entering a new season with plenty of challenges, competing in a newly structured league that will see them up against the likes of Middelburg, Witbank and Nelspruit.
Both the Premium and the Promo sides have ended in second place in their respective Gert Sibande Leagues and will carry points forward to the next half-season.
