Ermelo Police issue warning

Motor theft increase in Ermelo.

Police in Ermelo have warned residents to be vigilant when parking their vehicles in the CBD and shopping complexes as an increase of cases involving theft out of motor vehicles has been reported.

• On the evening of Thursday 11 June a complainant in a case parked his vehicle outside a residence in Cwebezela. The next morning it was discovered that a door of the vehicle had been forced open and a radio/CD player, car battery and the vehicle’s spare wheel had been stolen.

• At about 16:15 on Friday 12 June a vehicle owner discovered that a laptop worth approximately R6000 had been stolen out ofhis vehicle which had been parked in Church Street. In a similar incident a laptop worth R5000 was stolen out of a vehicle that was parked in Oosthuise Street.

• Also on 12 June a complainant reported that he had left his vehicle outside a Tavern in Khubeka Street that evening. When he later returned he noticed the passenger side door of the vehicle had been opened. It was discovered that a radio plus an amount of cash had been stolen out of the vehicle.

• On Sunday 15 June it was reported that a motor vehicle had been stolen in the CBD. According to the complainant he had parked his vehicle, a VW Golf Reg. FRC 898 MP outside a nightspot ar around 20:00. He returned to his vehicle at about midnight and found it had been stolen.

• An incidence of housebreaking was also reported on Monday morning. During the night of 14 June thieves gained entrance to a residence in Chris de Villiers Street through a window and after opening a sliding patio door, they stole a TV set, a home theatre system and a couch.

• On Sunday 15 June a business premises in Kerk Street was broken into and electronic goods of unknown value were stolen. Thieves gained entry to the premises by smashing a glass door.

• A case of armed robbery was also reported on Sunday. The complainant in the case was allegedly walking in a street in Thusi Village when he was confronted by a group of six men. The men demanded money and after robbing the victim of a cell phone one of the attackers pulled out a knife and stabbed him. The attackers then fled the scene.
