ERMELO – Bush Runners Hiking Club complete Kranskloof Hiking Trail

She added the trail is an extremely beautiful trail and although it is only 7kms, the average slope is 11,8%, making it one of the toughest in the nearby region.

ERMELO – The Bush Runners Hiking Club completed the Kranskloof Hiking Trail on October 16.

According to Ms Bobby van Strijp, the founder of the club, a total of 35 members participated.

She said the Kranskloof trails are in the Komati Gorge Nature Reserve and one can therefore expect to see a variety of wildlife, including zebra, eland, baboons and otters.

“Years ago, some hikers reported that they had seen a leopard,” she said.

Ms Van Strijp added that the area was a twitcher’s paradise with the combination of Highveld birds and those of the bush, including the Narina trogon, and the purple-crested and Knysna turacos (loeries).

“The gushing waterfalls, fast-flowing mountain streams, swimming spots, indigenous trees, shrubs and veld flowers, make Kranskloof a must for those who love the outdoors and nature,” she said.

The trail is extremely beautiful and although it is only 7km, the average slope is 11.8%, making it one of the toughest in the region.

“It is therefore with the utmost admiration that I must commend Ms Rea Swart (67) and Ms Charlotte Lands (52) for their determination and perseverance in completing the strenuous six-hour hike. You are both absolute legends,” she said.
