Wesselton 16-year-old arrested for fatally stabbing pupil (17) at Cebisa Secondary

The pupil (17) was fatally stabbed by knife in the chest during break time at Cebisa Secondary School.

ERMELO – The police have arrested a 16-year-old suspect in connection with the fatal stabbing of a learner at Cebisa Secondary School on August 16.

The suspect allegedly stabbed a 17-year-old student in the chest inside the school grounds, during a school break.

The pupil was declared dead at the Ermelo Provincial Hospital after being transported by the teachers.

According to information, both pupils are allegedly affiliated with two notorious gangs in Wesselton.

The spokesperson of the Ermelo police, Captain Carla Prinsloo, said the suspect was arrested at his parents’ house on a farm between Ermelo and Breyten.

“We would like to pass on our heartfelt gratitude to the community, especially the Khayelihle residents, for helping us with the investigation that led to the arrest of the suspect,” Prinsloo said.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on August 18.

Classes are suspended until further notice.

The MEC of education, Bonakele Majuba, will visit the school on August 18 to render psychosocial assistance to those affected by the horrific incident.
