Man attacks Amersfoort police with panga after alleged cattle theft
One of the suspects became violent and attacked the police with a panga.

AMERSFOORT – Two men were arrested between the town and Morgenzon for allegedly stealing nine cattle on August 18.
According to a Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the police received information about the theft and were dispatched to the scene, where they found the two suspects guiding the animals.
“When the police questioned them about the cattle, they failed to give a valid reason as to where were they were going with them,” Mohlala said.
One of the suspects was arrested, while the other one became violent, attacked the police with a panga and fled the scene.
After the police had tracked the suspect for hours, he was found and arrested.
They were charged with stock theft and attempted murder.
The owner of the cattle was located and he positively identified his livestock.
The two suspects will appear in the Amersfoort Magistrate’s Court.
The provincial commissioner of the Mpumalanga police, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, has welcomed the arrest and urged people to help put an end to stock theft, by not buying suspected stolen items.
