MEC promises to come up with ways to stop crime in Wesselton
The imbizo follows after the fatal stabbing of a Cebisa Secondary School pupil (17) on August 16.
WESSELTON – Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety and Security, MEC Vusi Shongwe vowed to come up with ways to halt criminal activities and gangsterism in the area during an imbizo which was held at the Mpumalanga Stadium on August 28.
During the meeting, MEC Shongwe committed himself to tackling crime and urged residents to come together in ensuring that the area is safe again.
He added residents and businesses have suffered a lot at the hands of criminals and called for crime to stop immediately.
“I want to assure all of you that together with all the law enforcement agencies we will be hitting the ground and fight against these gangsters and criminals who have been terrorising you,” MEC Shongwe said.
According to him, his department called the imbizo to engage residents in possible solutions, especially those who have fell victims to crime and reassuring them that the fight against crime has already begun and will continue until law and order is restored.
Residents were given an opportunity to engage with MEC Shongwe by airing their fustrations.
Various officials took part in the imbizo, including Msukaligwa Local Municipality executive councillor, Shelly Nkosi and Gert Sibande District Municipality executive mayor, councillor Water Mngomezulu who ensured residents that GSDM is also committed to making sure that all the local municipalities in the region will fully be enforce the by-laws.
