CAROLINA – The fingerprints of Rodney Cromwell Maoto (32) became crucial evidence in a robbery incident and assisted police to solve the case.

Carolina Regional Court on November 2, handed down a 15 years’ jail sentence to Maoto.

The court heard that on August 17, 2017, at 10:40, Maoto and an accomplice stormed into one of Carolina’s Financial Service Providers (Cash Loans) armed with a firearm.

They held the cashiers at gunpoint before robbing them of some money and a cellphone.

The cashiers were subjected to additional trauma when they were locked in the safe room before their perpetrators fled the scene.

The police reported a business robbery and collected fingerprints from the scene.

A manhunt for Maoto was initiated, and on 11 April 2019, investigators discovered that the individual they were looking for had in fact already been arrested in Witbank for a different crime.

The accused was then charged with armed robbery. After fingerprint results came back positive, forensic investigation linked him to the crime.

Maoto was finally convicted after multiple court appearances. He was also found ineligible to possess a firearm.
