Department launches investigation into corruption at various driving licence testing centres

According to Vusi Shongwe, the Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison, the corruption in vehicle and driver licensing centres has a negative impact on the government's efforts to improve road safety.

The Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison has launched an investigation as a result of the damning accusations recently made by some driving school owners about corruption at various driving licence testing centres in the province.

Additionally, the department has suspended one official as a precaution, after it was revealed that when some driving school owners brought candidates for testing, he attempted to solicit bribes from them.

According to Vusi Shongwe, the Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison, the corruption in vehicle and driver licensing centres has a negative impact on the government’s efforts to improve road safety.

He said it jeopardises service delivery. He urged all stakeholders to co-operate with the government to put an end to corruption at these centres.
