Suspect arrested in Ermelo for selling fraudulent doctor’s sick notes

Swift reaction from the police led to the arrest of the suspect, who was found in possession of another sick note, ready to be delivered.

ERMELO – A 35-year-old man was arrested at a local shopping centre on July 4 on charges of fraud.

According to Captain Carla Prinsloo, spokesperson for the Ermelo police, it is alleged that the suspect sells fraudulent sick notes to members of the public for R450 per sick note.

“The management of one of the security companies in Ermelo became suspicious when employees presented the fraudulent notes at work,” Prinsloo said.

The doctor in question was contacted for enquiries and had no record of any of the employees being his patients or having consultations with them.

The doctor reported the incident to the police on July 4.

Swift reaction from the police led to the arrest of the suspect, who was found in possession of another sick note ready to be delivered.

The suspect was arrested at 11:20 in the parking area of Ermelo Mall.

The suspect is due to appear in Ermelo Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, July 6.
