Ermelo police probe double homicide, third shooting in 2 weeks

Paramedics were dispatched to the scene of a shooting, where they discovered two individuals with multiple gunshot wounds.

ERMELO – Police are currently investigating a double homicide that took place on October 30 in Wesselton.

Ambulance services were dispatched to the scene, where two men with multiple gunshot wounds were declared dead on arrival.

According to Captain Carla Prinsloo, spokesperson for the Ermelo police, no suspects have been arrested as yet.

“At this stage, we are unable to confirm a motive,” Prinsloo stated.

“Early indications suggest that the individuals may have been targeted, but this is speculative as the investigation is still in its early stages. As we gather more information, we hope to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

This incident follows the shooting of a 25-year-old man who was killed at a car wash in Cwebezela, Wesselton, on Friday, October 18.

Prinsloo reported that the victim was sitting at the local business with a group of friends when he was approached by two men armed with pistols.

“The suspects fired shots at the man, hitting him multiple times,” Prinsloo said. He died at the scene.

The suspects then fled in a VW Polo without registration plates, which had been parked further down the road.

In another unrelated incident, a truck driver was shot along the N2 around 02:40 on October 31, just a few kilometres before the Sheepmoor-turnoff.

According to a local paramedic from the Provincial Ambulance Services, the truck driver, who had presumably stopped to rest, was shot in the leg during an armed robbery.

The driver told paramedics that he was startled by a noise, and upon investigating, he was confronted by an armed suspect who, along with three others, proceeded to steal eight wheels from the truck.

The driver was admitted to Ermelo Provincial Hospital and is currently in stable condition.

Highvelder has sent enquiries regarding the truck driver’s shooting to the Sheepmoor police spokesperson, Sergeant Thembelihle Mshayisa, and awaits feedback.
