CAROLINA – Police recovered dagga weighing approximately 260kg, with an estimated street value of R1.5m following a high speed chase on January 13.

According to provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, police spotted a white vehicle with Botswana number plates traveling towards Breyten at about 07:00.

It made a U-turn and headed back towards Carolina.

When police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver sped off, leading to a chase. The vehicle later came to a stop next to the road.

“The driver locked the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby maize field. Despite an extensive search conducted by police, assisted by private security, the suspect could not be traced,” Ndubane said.

Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered the dagga.

The vehicle was confiscated, and no form of identification belonging to the suspect was found.

Police urged anyone with information that may assist in tracing the suspect to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or submit information via the MySAPS app.
