UPDATE – Hit-and-run suspect caught by quick-acting security

Following the hit-and-run, Deon van Zyl (Highveld Security) and Jaco Kirk (Spartan Security) acted on a bystander’s information to track the suspect.

ERMELO – A man has been taken into police custody following a hit-and-run incident in De Bruin Street that left a female pedestrian injured.

The arrest followed a rapid response from local security members after the driver fled from the scene.

Deon van Zyl from Highveld Security and Jaco Kirk from Spartan Security and Training, arrived at the scene to gather information regarding the vehicle and the driver involved.

Acting on descriptions provided at the scene, the security officers tracked the suspect to a local residence within minutes.

First responders provide medical assistance to the pedestrian shortly after the accident in De Bruin Street.

Upon arrival, they discovered the vehicle, which showed visible damage including a cracked windscreen.

Police was contacted and arrived at the residence, where the man was subsequently arrested.
