UPDATE: Police launch manhunt after fatal shooting on N11
A case of murder has been opened, and police have launched a manhunt for the suspect or suspects involved.
BREYTEN – Police launched a manhunt following the fatal shooting of a 42-year-old man on the Ermelo–Hendrina road (N11) near the Breyten turn-off on April 21.
As previously reported, the scene unfolded at approximately 11:04 on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, when Theo Craven alerted motorists to possible delays following what was initially described as a crime scene along the Ermelo–Hendrina road.
According to Sergeant Shadrack Mashegoane, Breyten police spokesperson, officers responded to a report from a member of the public regarding the body of a man found next to a vehicle along the N11 near Breyten.
“Upon arrival at the scene, police found the victim lying on the ground in a pool of blood next to what is believed to be his family vehicle,” Mashegoane said.
Emergency medical personnel declared the man dead at the scene.
He was later identified by family members as Mpendulo Mahlangu (42), from Hendrina.
A case of murder has been opened, and police have launched a manhunt for the suspect or suspects involved.
Authorities are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist in the investigation to come forward.
