Residents demand answers as Ermelo suffers ongoing water supply disruptions

Weeks of sporadic water supply in Ermelo spark anger among residents and businesses suffer heavy financial losses.

ERMELO – The Democratic Alliance (DA) has sounded the alarm over worsening water shortages in town, where households, guest houses and businesses have been struggling without a reliable supply for weeks.

Residents report that water is often cut during the day and only returns late at night, leaving many frustrated and financially strained.

“This is a disaster,” said Ferdi Lengenhager, manager of a local guest house.

“You can’t book guests and expect them not to shower or use the toilet. We’ve had to buy water and spend thousands of rands just to keep guests happy.”

Local business representative Lakesh Maharaj said that businesses continue to struggle with persistent water shortages.

“We understand there are challenges with old infrastructure, but we need to put our heads together and come up with viable solutions,” he said.
