Gert Sibande District mourns passing of Mkhondo councillor

Gert Sibande District Municipality has extended condolences following the death of a serving Mkhondo ward councillor.

Gert Sibande District Municipality has expressed deep sorrow following the death of Mkhondo Local Municipality Ward 17 councillor Mthokozisi Amady Simelane on May 25.

The district extended condolences to his family, colleagues, friends and residents of Ward 17, describing his passing as a significant loss to both Mkhondo Local Municipality and the broader local government sector.

In a statement, GSDM Speaker Busisiwe Sekhonde said the district shared in the grief of the community and highlighted Simelane’s contribution to public service and community development.

She noted that councillors play an important role in representing residents and ensuring that community concerns are addressed through participatory governance.

Sekhonde also conveyed a message of comfort to those affected, wishing the family strength and healing during this difficult time.
