Ermelo Provincial Hospital’s workers strike over alleged mismanagement

They also complained about the lack of nappies for newborn babies and the supply of medication, as they don't have enough stock in the pharmacy.

ERMELO – The Ermelo Provincial Hospital’s workers, led by Nehawu’s regional secretary, Jimmy Motha, marched to the hospital on April 3 to submit a memorandum to demand answers from the provincial chief director of hospital services, Mpho Mohale.

The doctors and nurses expressed their dissatisfaction over the hospital’s infrastructure being in dire condition, with broken laundry machines being just one example.

They also complained about the lack of nappies for newborn babies and the supply of medication, as they don’t have enough stock in the pharmacy.

Some of the workers additionally complained about the HR department. They said they don’t understand the system used by the department when hiring people. They demanded clarity and answers, because they suspect favouritism when vacancies are advertised.

They insist that the current hospital management be removed, because they do not attend to the problems the staff face.

Mohale and the Ermelo Hospital’s acting CEO, Themba Mashaba, thanked the workers for raising these concerns and promised to provide solutions and answers within seven days.
