Ermelo faces extensive damage amidst unconfirmed tornado reports

As of now, no official confirmation has been made regarding the nature of the weather event.

Highvelder has received unconfirmed reports of a possible tornado that struck parts of Ermelo and Cassim Park, causing extensive damage across these areas.

Upon visiting the affected locations, Highvelder observed widespread destruction, including uprooted trees, damaged roofs, torn-out carports, downed electrical poles and wires, collapsed walls and fences, damaged ceilings within homes, and debris scattered throughout the area.

As of now, no official confirmation has been made regarding the nature of the weather event.

Reports from residents and short video clips shared online show intense winds and flying debris but lack clear indicators typically associated with a tornado.

Additionally, the brief footage makes it difficult to determine whether it captured the start, middle, or end of the event, complicating efforts to verify its specifics.

Newly elected Ward 7 councillor, JJ Scholtz, visited the scene and reported that he has coordinated with MMC Ernest Ngovene and Mr Malaza of the Parks and Garden division to deploy cleanup services.
