UPDATE: SA Weather Services weigh in on tornado claims in Ermelo

South African Weather Service forecaster Celeste Fourie has provided further insight into the severe weather event that caused extensive damage in Ermelo.

She confirmed that the weather phenomenon could potentially have been a tornado.

However, Fourie also stated, “With the radar that we have available, we cannot confirm if a tornado did touch down.”

As previously reported, the affected areas experienced significant damage, including uprooted trees, torn roofs, and downed electrical poles.

Cleanup efforts are underway, coordinated by local authorities.
