Msukaligwa municipality responds: No convoy or blue light brigade in mayor’s accident
The municipality further clarified that the mayor was not travelling in a convoy or as part of a blue-light brigade, contrary to the reports by the publication.
The Msukaligwa Local Municipality has issued a statement confirming that its executive mayor, Alderwoman Mapulane Precious Nkosi, was involved in a vehicle accident near Mbombela on March 6 while on official government duties as reported initially by the Lowvelder and subsequently Highvelder News.
The municipality stated that Nkosi and her two bodyguards sustained minor injuries and were taken to the nearest hospital for medical observation.
The municipality said that the mayor was not travelling in a convoy or as part of a blue-light brigade, contrary to the reports by the Highvelder and Lowvelder publications.
It was reported yesterday, March 7, that witnesses at the scene said the mayor’s vehicle was escorted by two black BMW’s with their blue lights on, but these cars were not involved in the accident.
When Lowveld Media arrived on the scene only the two vehicles that were involved in the crash were still there, and there was no sign of any escorting vehicles.
“The Executive Mayor was driven by one motor vehicle not in convoy and/or so called blue light brigade as reported earlier by one of the newspapers,” Mandla Zwane, spokesperson for the Msukaligwa Municipality said.

When asked for comment on the accident yesterday, Zwane shared that the municipality’s information was at that stage limited.
He stated that they knew the mayor was admitted to the hospital following the accident for a check-up.
The article was sent to him directly after it was published.

“The municipality is currently gathering all relevant details regarding the incident and is working closely with the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation. The safety and well-being of Alderwoman Nkosi and all parties involved are our top priority.”
The municipality also requested that the privacy of those affected be respected during this time.
Despite the incident, the municipality assured residents that its operations remain unaffected and that service delivery will continue as usual.
Further updates will be provided if more information becomes available.
