DA promises prize for best placard at Ermelo’s silent protest

From power cuts to potholes – Ermelo residents take to the streets in silence to demand better services from the municipality.

ERMELO – Frustration with poor municipal service delivery is set to spill onto the streets today, 5 September, when residents and business owners join a silent protest in the CBD.

From 11:00 to 12:00, participants will line Church and Voortrekker Street in a visible show of dissatisfaction with what the Democratic Alliance deem the Msukaligwa Local Municipality’s ongoing failures.

This protest will see residents standing outside their businesses and along pavements, holding placards expressing their grievances.

Organisers say creativity will be rewarded, with a mystery prize for the most original slogan.

Residents are urged to wear coloured T-shirts and carry placards during a silent protest in Ermelo.

T-shirt colours signal grievances

Protesters were asked to wear T-shirts reflecting the service delivery issue that affects them most:

  • White – Electricity

  • Yellow – Potholes

  • Blue – Water

The initiative is aimed at uniting Ermelo’s fed-up community members in a peaceful but powerful display of disapproval.

“Don’t just complain on WhatsApp groups,” organisers urge.

“Show your disgust and disapproval in public. Bring your banners and placards – and let your voice be seen, even in silence.”
