R10 increase implemented for October SASSA social grants

SASSA has confirmed that all social grants increased by R10 in October, following Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s budget announcement.

Millions of South Africans have already received slightly higher social grant payments this month, following the increase announced by the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA).

All grants were raised by R10 as part of the adjustments outlined by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana in the 2025/26 Budget Speech earlier this year.

“The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) wishes to inform all social grant beneficiaries that social grant amounts will increase in the October payment cycle. This is in line with the announcement made by the Minister of Finance earlier this year when he tabled the Budget Speech for the 2025/26 financial year,” SASSA said in a statement.

The new social grant amounts, effective from October, are as follows:

  • Old Age Grant: R2 320 (previously R2 310)
  • Old Age Grant – over 75 years: R2 340 (previously R2 330)
  • War Veterans Grant: R2 340 (previously R2 330)
  • Disability Grant: R2 320 (previously R2 310)
  • Care Dependency Grant: R2 320 (previously R2 310)

SASSA CEO Themba Matlou welcomed the increase, saying that the adjustment, though modest, is meaningful for households depending on social assistance.

He added that SASSA is fully prepared for the October payment cycle.

The October 2025 grant payments were made according to the following schedule:

  • Old Age Grants: 2 October
  • Disability Grants: 3 October
  • Children’s Grants: 6 October

SASSA confirmed that payments proceeded smoothly nationwide and reminded beneficiaries that their funds remain safely in their accounts until withdrawn.
