VIDEO – House destroyed in Wesselton after child lights match underneath bed

Firefighters respond to a house fire on Mthambama Street, with the family receiving temporary shelter from a family member.

A house in Mthambama Street in Wesselton was destroyed in a fire earlier this afternoon, leaving sisters Thembi Vilakazi and Siphesihle Vilakazi, along with two young children, homeless

The blaze began when a child lit a match under a bed, and it rapidly engulfed the home.

Thankfully, the family was not inside at the time, and the child immediately ran to safety upon realising what had happened.

Msukaligwa Fire and Rescue Services attended the scene, but the family now faces the heartbreak of losing nearly all their possessions, including furniture, clothing, and other treasured belongings.

Relatives have provided temporary shelter, but the path to rebuilding will be long.

At this stage, the family’s greatest need is food and clothing.
