Licensing services resume in Ermelo after week’s closure

The reopening of the Ermelo licensing offices follows days of uncertainty after disruptions affected access to services earlier this month.

ERMELO – Residents and motorists can once again breathe a sigh of relief as services at the local licensing offices have resumed this morning, following more than a week of disruption.

Highvelder visited the offices and confirmed that the building was open to the public, with personnel attending to members of the public at the service counters.

The offices had been affected by ongoing operational disruptions throughout last week, causing frustration among residents, motorists and local businesses who rely on licensing and registration services.

The disruption also prompted engagement at provincial level, with the MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, who is said to have addressed concerned stakeholders at the Bathopele Regional Offices yesterday at 10:00.

At the time of the Highvelder’s visit this morning, staff on duty confirmed that services had resumed. However, no official explanation for the earlier closure or the disruption has been provided.

More detail on the closure, the events leading up to the disruption and responses from the department are available in the print edition of Highvelder.
