Ermelo licensing offices close again as public frustration mounts

rmelo licensing offices were closed again on 21 and 22 January due to internal disputes, leaving residents and businesses frustrated.

Ermelo residents and local businesses are once again left in limbo after the town’s licensing offices closed their doors again yesterday and today with no indication of when services will resume.

The closures come amid ongoing internal disputes within the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison (DCSSL), reportedly related to appointment allocations and disagreements over traffic officer learnerships.

Despite a recent visit by MEC Jackie Macie to address concerned stakeholders, the offices remain closed, leaving motorists, car dealerships, and service providers such as Queue for You (Q4U) unable to operate normally.

One Queue for You member told Highvelder that her income has been severely affected and that she is unsure how she will make ends meet if the disruption continues.

Department spokesperson Moeti Mmusi has not provided detailed answers regarding the closures, and repeated inquiries for clarification and a timeline for reopening have gone unanswered.

The ongoing uncertainty has left many in the community frustrated, highlighting concerns over the department’s handling of the situation.

Residents are waiting for clarity on when full licensing and registration services will once again be available.

Residents who urgently need to renew their driver’s licences are advised to use alternative offices in Breyten, Hendrina, or Morgenzon until Ermelo services resume.
