Msukaligwa cracks down on building law violations

One business was ordered to close immediately, while several other property owners were served with formal notices and warnings.

ERMELO – Msukaligwa Local Municipality (MLM) launched a joint inspection of property on January 29 to identify owners who ignore building laws and zoning regulations.

A team of building inspectors, town planners and SAPS officers conducted the operation.

The inspection began on Voortrekker Street and moved through the industrial area to address widespread non-compliance with planning and building legislation and municipal by-laws, with particular attention given to zoning.

During the sweep, officials identified several properties in direct violation of municipal by-laws.

Residents and business owners were found to have converted residential homes into business premises or built new structures without the necessary municipal approvals.

One business was ordered to close immediately due to serious regulatory failures, while several other property owners were served with formal notices and warnings.

The municipality warned that this is not a one-time event. Joint operations will continue to ensure that all developments in Ermelo follow legal procedures.

The MLM emphasised that any change in land use must follow the prescribed legal processes to ensure public safety, orderly development and fair regulation.
