No answers yet after discovery of decomposed body in quarry outside Ermelo

A decomposed body was found on 21 January in an Ermelo quarry. Investigation continues and the identity remains unknown.

ERMELO – Questions continue to linger over the discovery of a decomposed body in a quarry on a farm along the Morgenzon Road outside Ermelo.

The grim find was made on 21 January by a 10-year-old boy who was swimming in the quarry.

The child reportedly experienced severe trauma and has since received counselling.

Police responded to the scene immediately, but the recovery operation could only be completed the following day due to the unavailability of divers.

The recovery involved SAPS members, forensic services, the pathology unit, private security personnel, and volunteer diver Alwyn van der Linde.

Captain Carla Prinsloo confirmed that an inquest has been opened.

β€œThe identity of the deceased has not yet been determined. The extent of decomposition makes it difficult to establish both the identity and the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing.”

Anyone with information that could assist us should contact Sergeant Sydney Nkambule on 082 373 8389,” she said.
