Seizure victim in Ermelo lies under tree waiting for medical help

A man collapsed on Jan van Riebeeck Street, Ermelo, after a seizure, leaving the public to assist before paramedics arrived.

An employee of a local courier company stopped his vehicle in Jan van Riebeeck Street, to prevent traffic from hitting a man who had reportedly suffered an epileptic seizure.

Members of the public, ACSU and local SAPS soon arrived and tended to him, carefully moving him from the road to the sidewalk to keep him safe.

Despite their efforts, he was eventually left lying flat on his back, alone under the shade of a tree, awaiting the arrival of medical assistance.

Provincial Ambulance Services paramedics only arrived shortly after 11:24.

The incident coincided with a protest at the Ermelo Provincial Hospital, but sources confirmed ambulance services were not disrupted.

The delay highlights concerns about acceptable emergency response times in situations where people are left vulnerable.
