ERMELO – An ordinary delivery run turned into an act of quiet heroism when a local courier driver stopped traffic to protect a man who had collapsed in the street.

Bystanders told Highvelder the incident unfolded in Jan van Riebeeck Street when a man suddenly fell in the roadway.

With vehicles still moving through the area, the situation quickly became dangerous.

An employee of a local courier company, who had been making deliveries nearby, reacted without hesitation.

He positioned his vehicle in the road to block oncoming traffic and prevent passing cars from hitting the man and proceeded with his deliveries on foot.

The driver, Nhlanhla Fortunater Ndlovu, said he had just returned to his vehicle after delivering a parcel when he noticed the commotion.

“That day I was going to do a delivery at the Sheriff’s Office. I saw people gathering and then noticed a man lying in the street,” he said.

A staff member from the Sheriff’s Office had come outside to see what had happened.

“I asked her what was going on and she told me the man had just fallen in the street. Then I saw a car coming past at high speed and that’s when I decided to park my car in front of the man so I could protect him.”
