Ten killed in R39 head-on collision between Standerton and Morgenzon

Authorities are investigating a fatal crash between a taxi and bus on the R39 amid reports of poor visibility.

Ten people died in a head-on collision between a minibus taxi and a bus on the R39 Road between Standerton and Morgenzon early this morning.

According to reports, the crash occurred around 05:15, while misty conditions may have reduced visibility.

The taxi was travelling from Morgenzon to Standerton, while the bus was travelling in the opposite direction.

Eight taxi occupants died at the scene, while two others later died in hospital.

The bus driver sustained minor injuries, and one passenger escaped unharmed.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, and reckless or negligent driving has not been ruled out.

Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr Jackie Macie, conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.
