Large tree falls near GSDM offices in Ermelo

Drivers travelling past the district municipality offices are advised to slow down while the obstruction is cleared.

ERMELO – Motorists are urged to exercise caution after a large tree fell near the Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) offices in Ermelo today, September 29, affecting one traffic lane.

The tree came down along the road entering Ermelo from the N17 Bethal direction, near the turn-off towards Morgenzon.

Traffic officers were on the scene to assist with traffic management. A stationary bakkie was also at the scene, with people seen cutting up the fallen tree and loading the wood onto the vehicle.

Motorists travelling through the area are advised to reduce their speed, remain alert and approach the affected section with caution.

The tree came down amid wet conditions in Ermelo, with the surrounding ground saturated following rainfall. It has not been confirmed whether the wet conditions contributed to the tree falling.
