Lothair community unite for GBVF campaign
SAPS, together with the Community Policing Forum, hosted a gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) awareness campaign in Silindile.
LOTHAIR – SAPS, in partnership with the Community Policing Forum, hosted a gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) awareness campaign in Silindile on September 24.
Police invited residents of Lothair and surrounding areas to participate in a peaceful march aimed at raising awareness about GBVF and mourning the victims of gender-based violence, regardless of gender.
The march covered a distance of 7km, with participants carrying placards displaying messages calling for an end to GBVF.
Led by SAPS, the group proceeded to the local soccer field, where participants gathered for a moment of silence in remembrance of victims.
A candlelight prayer was conducted by members of the Pastoral Forum.
The organisers highlighted GBV as a serious community issue and emphasised that anyone can become a victim.
Community members were also encouraged not to remain silent when they witness or experience abuse, but to report any incidents to help save lives.
