Ermelo sports teams play in tournament on Youth Day
The tournament saw Bhozza FC is crowned the soccer champs, Panther’s A side is the netball champs and Big Ballerz gets the basketball trophy.
Various teams from around Msukaligwa gathered at the Nesto Shisanyama and Lounge to participate in a Youth Day tournament on Saturday, 16 June.
The tournament, hosted by Nesto and organised by Mr Raputla Shabangu, was part of Youth Day celebrations.
Fashion models from Thick Queens addressed the crowds on issues which included body image and self-esteem.
A soccer, basketball and netball championship and bragging rights were up for grabs and teams brought their A-game to be crowned the winners.
The Nesto parking bay was transformed into a makeshift court with spectators treated to a goal feast.
Altogether eight football teams and four teams in the basketball and netball category took part, however only three teams triumphed on the day with Bhozza FC taking the soccer crown. They defeated Mafia FC 5-3 in what was a cracker of a match.
The Panthers netball team was on fire as both their A and B sides qualified for the final. The A side showed why they are in the first team as they schooled the B side, getting 13 goals to their 8.
The basketball event saw the Big Ballers defeating the OG’s 11-5.
The organiser, Mr Raputla Shabangu, was pleased with the turn-out and praised the teams and the spectators for a successful tournament.
“We celebrated Youth Day by promoting an active lifestyle, however we cannot forget the youth who fought for us to be here today,” Mr Shabangu said.
