VOC United only local team to win SAB Soccer League
Leading teams dropped vital points this past weekend which allowed trailing teams to close the gap and it is still a long way to go in the season.
The sixth round of the Gert Sibande stream in the SAB Soccer League took place at various stadiums around the district this past weekend of 27 October.
It has been a dismal season so far for the five local teams, who find themselves playing catch up to other teams.
The debutantes, Mpumalanga Eagles FC, are surprisingly the local team at the top with VOC United frustrating their fans with lacklustre performances.
Action at the weekend kicked off at the Mpumalanga Stadium on Saturday as VOC United faced newcomers, Typhoon FC.
The locals had their backs against the wall after being on a losing streak.
VOC managed a scrappy 1-0 win over Typhoon, which brought a sigh of relief to fans and management.

The VOC side hope their win is the turning point in what has been an unforgettable season so far.
VOC was the only local outfit to get maximum points as the Sun City Gunners drew their match 1-1 against log leaders, Flymingo United.
Ermelo United can not get out of the bottom of the log and succumbed to another defeat, this time at the hands of PR Barcelona.
The Piet Retief side put two goals past the Ermelo United goalkeeper. That match ended 2-1.
In other matches, defending champions, Somhlolo FC, finally won a match, beating XI Experience 3-1.
The champs have had a tough season so far and they have been languishing at the bottom of the table and this is their first time getting maximum points on match day.
Manzana United continued their winning run, defeating Breyten Home sweepers 1-0 at the KwaZanele Stadium.
Locals, Mpumalanga Eagles FC lost 3-2 to Breyten United and Hammers FC won 4-3 against Carolina’s Passion FC in what was a goal fest at the Lindza Sports Field.
The locals teams will welcome the Nedbank Cup break this coming weekend and the next round of matches takes place on the weekend of 10 November.
