If you have a love of speed and power cars, Force Maps was the place to be this past weekend.

They hosted a fun dyno tuning braai day, which saw car enthusiasts taking part and showing off what their cars can do.

Joelien Nel, owner of Force Maps, explained that a dyno test is conducted to check a vehicle’s power output.

This is measured in kilowatt (kW) and torque (Nm).

Pieter van der Merwe’s Toyota Corolla, better known as Red Roman, with its 2JZ engine was the strongest vehicle. It put out an impressive 524kW and 709Nm, and was used to competed in 400-metre drag races.

In the second place for strongest turbo cars was Force Maps Ermelo with a Nissan Sabre that put out 208kW and 372Nm, followed by Riaan Janse van Vuuren of Lothair in his Ford Escort 1600cc turbocharged pushrod, developing 143kW and 284Nm.

His car is also used as a drag car and a daily driver.

Rouse Engineering had the strongest VW Jetta Mk2, operated by Mornay Robinson. It had a strong and loud naturally aspirated motor, and the vehicle had impressive and consistent runs throughout the day.

Fred Hawley had some good runs, too, with his Isuzu 2.5, performing better than some of the 3.0 Isuzu bakkies.
