Women’s volleyball tournament hosted at Ermelo Sports Inn

According to media and marketing director of GSVU, Lindiwe Mathebula, this was the first women tournament to be held aim of prioritizing women in volleyball.

ERMELO – The Gert Sibande Volleyball Union (GSVU) held a women’s volleyball tournament at Ermelo Sports Inn on April 23.

The tournament featured eight teams from Mpumalanga and one from Gauteng, namely: Bootcamp from Pretoria, TectoniX from Standerton, Beat Master from Kwaggafontein, Thanda from Piet Retief, Eagles from Wakkerstroom, Chivas from Siyabuswa, Oshoek and Flamingos from Ermelo.

According to GSVU’s media and marketing director, Lindiwe Mathebula, this was the first women’s tournament to be held with the aim to prioritise women in volleyball.

Eagles from Wakkerstroom was the runner up.

“This resolution was taken during a GSVU meeting: that women’s tournaments should be prioritised. Tournaments that are planned are either for men and women, and oftentimes the male teams would dominate them,” Ms Mathebula said.
