Ermelo’s Petrolheads compete at Lake Umuzi Rally

SECUNDA – Two of Ermelo’s rally teams competed in the National Rally Championship at the Secunda Lake Umuzi Rally on June 10 and 11.
The Lunatic Rally Team’s Edward Strydom (driver) and daughter, Luné Snyman (navigator) made their highly anticipated comeback after the team had to repair a broken Toyota Tazz (Bullet).
Strydom and his youngest daughter, Lariné Strydom, had crashed the car into a tree during the NRC TRAC Rally of SA in Dullstroom last year.
Snyman, who is no stranger to the rally scene, was the first driver for the Lunatic Rally Team when they first started racing.
She has sat in the driver’s seat for numerous rallies, and this weekend took her sister’s place for the first time as navigator because Lariné was writing exams.

Another Ermelo team, SX Racing in the form of Johan Strauss (driver) and Elzaan Venter (navigator) in their Subaru Imprezza, also took part.
“Although we were still far off pace with the front runners, we improved with each stage despite a few mistakes. Elzaan, as always, was on point with her notes.”
“We had to get to grips with the new setup in the car and despite the result we were satisfied with how the day ended,” Strauss said.
