The Okpugo twins, Chinedu and Chibuzo, are back on home soil after representing Ermelo on the global stage at the prestigious Karate 1 Youth League in Fujairah, UAE.

The brothers gained invaluable experience competing against the world’s best youth athletes.

Chinedu started strong with a dominant 8-0 win in his first bout, scoring two impressive ippon head kicks.

He narrowly lost his second match with a close 1-0 score line. Chibuzo faced tough opposition in his division, losing 4-0, but earned praise for his tactical maturity against top tier fighters.

“Their success is a major milestone for the Ermelo Karate Dojo, which continues to produce world-class talent,” said Sensei Eugene Smith from Ermelo Karate.

The twins are now preparing for the Elite Nationals in Durban, which will take place from March 20 to 22.

They will be joined by teammate Lesedi Twala as they all fight for a spot on the South African national team in a new age division.
