Hockey players net African spirit

Highway schools gathered to compete in Westville Senior Primary School's annual Heritage Sports Festival.

EVEN with the heavy downpour, the avid athletes proudly donned their school colours to compete in the Westville Senior Primary School’s Heritage Sports Festival. Each game lasted 20 minutes with a one minute break between games.

The schools competing included Westville Senior Primary, Atholl Heights Primary, Benjamin Pine Primary, Curro HCA, Hillcrest Primary Kloof Senior Primary, Northdene Primary and Sarnia Primary.

The host school’s principal, Richard Brown, said, “All the teams present are obviously striving to win, but it is in the camaraderie and common passion for the game that the ultimate winner will be found. Regardless of the results, I have no doubt that the weekend will be a memorable one for all involved.”

The main event sponsor was CMH Honda Auto Pinetown. It’s dealer principal, Darryl Sclanders, said, “It is an honour for us to be a continued part of this event as we support our youth and encourage them to pursue the love of hockey.

“To the coaches, parents and all those involved in the event from the sidelines we would like to say a big thank you for all the effort and time you have invested in the players.”
