A WYEBANK family was robbed at their home at 7.30am on Friday 26 July by six armed men, some of whom were dressed in police uniform.
According to Pinetown SAPS communication officer Lieutenant Bongumusa Manqele, the 51-year-old victim reported that he was followed by a white marked police vehicle as he drove into his driveway from dropping his son off at school.
“It is alleged that two males dressed in police uniform stepped out of the police vehicle and followed the victim. One ‘policeman’ had the rifle with him. It is alleged that they asked to search the boot of the victim’s vehicle,” continued Lt. Manqele.
The victim also reported that he witnessed a white bakkie stopping outside the gate and that four men wearing balaclavas exited that vehicle.
“They arrived in two vehicles. One was a police car and the other was a white Corsa bakkie. Some of them were dressed in police uniforms,” said the victim’s wife.
The family was forced into their home and later locked up in their bathroom.
“They kept demanding things and we cooperated as best we could. We didn’t know what was happening. It just happened so fast,” she added.
The robbers demanded money and they took approximately R190 000 in local and foreign currency. A laptop and two cell phones were also stolen, reported Lt Manqele.
Pinetown police are investigating a case of house robbery and no arrests have been made.
