THE imaginative talent of Kearsney College’s Grade 9 boys was put to the test this week at the school’s HistorYonix Expo, where they showed off creative models depicting aspects of World War II.
The annual expo was won by Timothy Marsh and Riley von Falkenhausen for their Gas Chamber Experience, which offered a completely interactive and emotional experience, combined with computer building and programming.
Entries were judged according to various criteria, including visual appeal, effective use of space, interactivity, interpretation and translation of historical fact through planning, research and creativity.
The judges were impressed by the chilling detail included in the Treblinka Concentration Camp, produced by Cameron Craze, William Farrant and Cameron Rencken, as well as by the historical accuracy and detail in Ryan Pretorius, Brayden Buchner and Daryn Shepherd’s interactive D-Day Presentation.
A beautifully-made large format Sherman Tank by Kilian Massa, Gavin Keeley and Stuart McCleave won them a joint third place. Other impressive entries were an authentic air raid shelter and the cross section of a U-Boat, with scaled detail – right down to the air bubbles.
The challenging annual history assignment is always a highlight for parents and friends, many of whom attend the prize-giving.
