Putting their best foot forward

A KZN rider won the prestigious Prix St George.

MEGAN Berning riding Ardmore Ceramics Couer de Leon won the International Federation for Equestrian Sports Prix St George which formed part of The International Federation for Equestrian Sports World Dressage Challenge which took place at the Durban Shongweni Club from 14 to 17 October.

The prestigious show, which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year is a competition between Ecuador, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brasil and South Africa.  These countries all form Zone 1 of the World Dressage Challenge under FEI.

Two certified international judges, Karin Kruger and Cristof Umbach, travel to these counties to judge up to 40 horses in each dressage category. In each of these categories, which range from Preliminary up to Prix St George, four riders are chosen to represent SA in the World Challenge Competition. Once the results have been collated, an overall international result is achieved.

It was also the first time an electronic scoreboard has been used in South Africa. The electronic scoreboard reveals each mark by judges instantaneously, as well as running percentages. The provisional percentages were available seconds after the horse completed the test.
