Violinist shines at Durban Pops

Nina Kolev, of St Mary's was invited to perform with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra.

NINA Kolev, a Grade 10 pupil and recent music scholarship recipient, has been selected as St Mary’s DSG’s Spar Star of the month.

Kolev, a talented violinist, was invited by the world-renowned conductor, Richard Cock, to perform with the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Kloof Rotary’s Durban Pops at the Durban City Hall on Saturday 15 November.

This well-supported event is an important annual fundraiser for Kloof Rotary. Kolev performed a demanding composition by Carl Czerny, an Austrian composer, teacher and pianist of Czech origin. Both of Kolev’s parents play in the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and her mother, Petya Koleva, a music tutor at St Mary’s, is also Kolev’s vocal coach.
