Ilke scores top marks

Top achieving matric pupil shares her secret to success.

ILKE Stolz’s hard work has earned her the prestigious title of top achieving matric pupil for Gelofte School in Pinetown.

She achieved seven distinctions, which included 98 per cent for accounting which was her highest mark. The bright young pupil admitted that she did not spend weeks in advance preparing for her matric exams.

“I paid attention in class and listened to what the teacher said. By doing that, I made sure that I understood the work. I did set up a study plan and still had to sit down and study before I wrote my exams. I also don’t believe in staying up late to study, as you need to rest in order to perform at your best,” said Stolz.

Stolz also attributed her achievements to her parents who supported her during her studies as well as her dedicated teachers.

The top pupil was also a prefect in matric and spent time on extra-curricular activities to stimulate her brain and body. She captained the 2nd netball team, who was awarded the title of netball team of the year.

Her advice to this year’s matriculants is, “Work hard from the beginning, pay attention in class, set goals, concentrate on subjects that you battle with, support each other and enjoy every minute. It will be over before you know it.”

While Stolz is a bit sad to say goodbye to her life as a pupil, she is excited to start a new chapter in her life as a student. She plans to start her chartered accounting degree at Westville Varsity College this year.

“My application has already been accepted and I plan to also pursue honours,” said Stolz.
