Kloof CPF ensuring Kloof is a safer place
The KCPF is helping to keep Kloof safe.
THE Kloof Community Police Forum is doing all they can to make Kloof a safer place.
So far projects that they have undertaken include installing cameras at the entrances and exits of Kloof; arranging for Transnet to provide armed guards along the railway line and forming the successful Kloof Patrol group.
The Kloof Patrol team’s latest project is the launch of a 24hr call line (076 0829774).
“We still advise you to contact SAPS first but you will now have another contact that can assist you. This is now the fifth project the CPF has undertaken to make Kloof a safer
place for all, “said Nikki Möhlmann, Projects Manager for KCPF.
Crime has decreased considerably in the residential area, thanks to the patrollers and SAPS, however crime is now moving into the CBD with card scamming going on at all ATMs in Kloof. There has also been an influx of street children and vendors to the area.
“We suggest that rather than purchasing avos etc from them, that we come up with another idea of helping these people. We will be contacting Metro and social welfare to see if we can find a way of assisting these individuals as unfortunately supporting them is only encouraging more of them to come into the area. Some of them have been linked as scouts to crime syndicates so please do not encourage them,” said Möhlmann.
“One of the best solutions is what one of the residents in the area decided to do. They employee one of these vagrants to clean the railway line on a weekly basis, now he no longer needs to beg and he is receiving money on a regular basis while keeping Kloof clean and tidy. The CPF will open an separate account for this and if we have a big enough demand, we will employee them with money raised. The Kloof SAPS could do with assistance in the garden as well as maybe giving them various other jobs to do in our community.”
Crime in comparison with preceding years for March is considerably down. Crime Stats for March:
House breaking 2; House Robbery 2; Business Premises 3; Theft of motor vehicle 1; Theft out of motor vehicle 3.
The KCPF ended the financial year on 28 February with a positive balance of R89 124.77. Total expenditure for the year was R 42 182.53. Major costs were police vouchers for Christmas of R5400 and R6475 for cameras. Total income for year was R101 829 which was mainly from fundraising events – R43 605 for golf day, R9 563 for the Heritage Theatre evening and R52985.20 for donations.
Their next initiative is creating a trauma room at the current Kloof police station which will be a safe haven for those who have experienced a traumatic incident. Another long term goal is the establishment of a new police station.
“We will also be assisting with a team of trauma counsellors that will assist residents. We urge the Kloof Community to get involved with the CPF , whether it be joining one of our patrol teams, assisting with trauma counselling or donating a once off payment or monthly amount to the CPF so we can continue with all our projects, said Möhlmann. “Our main source of income is from donations, for which we are extremely grateful.”
