18 injured in taxi and truck collision

Truck and taxi accident leaves 18 people injured.

EIGHTEEN people were injured when a taxi and a truck collided at the intersection on the M13 and Richmond Road yesterday afternoon.

Traffic was severely effected as the entire onramp was closed while emergency personnel worked to clear the scene.

When paramedics arrived on scene they found that the two vehicles had collided in the junction before coming to rest on the onramp back onto the M13 East bound.

Rescue Care Paramedics operations director, Garrith Jamieson said paramedics found a passenger still entrapped in the wreckage.

“With the assistance of the Durban Fire Department she was cut free using the jaws of life.

“Other passengers were found lying on the grass bank next to the roadside. Once all of the injured had been stabilised they were transported by ambulances to various Durban hospitals.

At this stage it is unclear what caused the collision, however SAPS were at the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
