Highway suffers another water outage

Gillitts residents were without water for a few hours after there was a fault with one of the pipes in Old Main Road.

GILLITTS residents were subjected to several hours without water when a pipe burst in the area.

“I received the first call about the water outage from Quo, a restaurant at the local shopping centre, early on Saturday evening. The area affected by the outage was about a 1km radius around the Gillitts Shopping Centre,” said Ward 10 councillor Rick Crouch. He noted that a call was logged at the department at 10.19am for a fault in the Old Main Road vicinity.

According to Crouch, there was a problem with a pipe in the area and, once the plumbers had established the problem, they picked up the necessary supplies to fix the pipe from the Water Depot in Springfield Park.

As per history of fault a plumber was sent out at 2.05pm and water was turned off at 6.14pm. The outage affected the following roads: Old Main Road, Millar Lane, Stockville Road, Longwood Road, Blue Gum Crescent and Bartle Road.

“I did request for water tankers and they did supply water to the residents who were in need of the water. The Water Department contacted me again this morning (Monday 18 August) to ensure that the tankers had arrived and that everything was running smoothly,” said Crouch.

The water was restored to the area at 12.10am on Sunday 17 August.
